Jeffrey D. Smith: Iansa, skipper/owner.

Sailing Resume:

Jeff grew up in Cleveland Ohio and first fell in love with the water while spending summers motor boating with his family on Lake Erie.   He learned to sail dinghies with his father at a young age and never forgot the thrill of a well-heeled Y-flyer charging to windward on Chippewa Lake near his home.   In 1998, Jeff started sailing in earnest when he joined the Ames Sailing Club at its inception and sailed as crew on the San Francisco Bay with Greg Sherwood, the club founder, aboard his Catalina 34.   Jeff went on to become the Ames Sailing Club Commodore (2002-2003) and has been an active member throughout its 12-year existence.

Since 1999, Jeff has owned his own 34' Moody sloop, Iansa , which he lived aboard for a year, but now enjoys on daysails and weekend cruises several times a month.   Jeff also enjoys racing and has crewed or skippered in both spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions aboard many boats.   Whether beercan races, weekend race series, or significant regattas such as the Double-Handed Farallones Race, the South Beach yacht Club's Jazz Cup or the Antigua Sailing Week, Jeff always takes a serious, but fun approach to racing.

Jeff holds US Sailing Certification for Basic Cruising and enjoys chartering boats for cruising as much as sailing his own Iansa or crewing with friends.
