An Oakland Yacht Club Sunrise

San Francisco Bay, Circumnavigating Alameda

Alameda Circumnavigation - Don't try it at low tide!

Photo gallery and journals of the sailing voyages of Ketch 22 in California waters

An annual rite of passage, the trip around Alameda Island is done on the first day of the year, tides permitting.   Typically crisp, cold and dry.   Yacht clubs all around the island generally put on a friendly face and visiting yachtsmen have a warm dry place to rest prior to continuing the circumnavigation.   It gets real tricky near the east end, where the tide dictates the schedule.

The Circumnavigation begins(not to be confused with the circumcision superstition).
