San Blas Mexico

Photos and text of the sailing voyages of Ketch 22

Chased out of our Isla Isabel anchorage at dawn by an  errant fishing boat   with a non-cooperative engine that was dragging down us, pushed by the storm agravated wind waves, we made a few course adjustments and then headed over to the mainland, a few hours distant.   The upcoming leg was to take us further along the southern Mexico Pacific coast to Zihuatenejo , a jewel of the south coast, where the crew would change again.   But first, the voyage to San Blas and beyond.

Here we are in San Blas.  Another jewel in the Mexican "Costo Del Oro".

The bartender in the San Blas Social Club (who had 60's era vintage album covers posted on every wall of his establishment) bet me a drink of my choosing that I wouldn't know who was singing the next song he was going to play.   I won the bet.   It was Marvin Gaye singing an early and obscure tune. It was a great margarita as I recall.

Another moth-balled fishing fleet.

One fancy cathedral.

An old school truck.

The town square.

This one needs some reconstruction.

View from ramparts of old Spanish fort.

It has a tropical look and feel.

The restored Spanish defenses.

This is the bartender who lost the bet.

No shortage of sea food in San Blas.

San Blas Jungle Tour

While in San Blas, the three of us took a side trip on the San Blas jungle tour.  A bit touristy, but interesting nonetheless.   We saw a lot of wildlife and got closer to the alligators than we perhaps should have.

The jungle tour boats.

The jungle tour course.

The jungle tour is narrow at times.

The fearless alligator hunters.

Look at those teeth!

Another un gettin a sun tan.

Lots of turtles too.

They appear to be well fed.

Yikes. Anybody got a calculator?

A nice day for a swim.

We found out later that there are holes in the fence keeping the crocs out.

They lived to tell the tale.
